Frequently Asked Questions of the Vashon-Maury Island Community Council

Last update: November 19, 2020

Q: Where can I find the link to attend the general Community Council meetings?

A: If you are on the e-mail list, a link is sent to you at least once before the meeting. If you don’t see one by the date of the meeting, check your spam folder. One e-mail will go out 1-2 weeks before the meeting. Another is usually sent as a reminder the day of the meeting.

The link is also published on the home page of our website. This usually goes up at least a week before the meeting

Q: What can I do if the ferry runs late?

A: You can call in to the meeting from your cell phone and participate that way. The call-in number for the meeting will be on the website home page: www.vmicc.net

Q: Are the dates and times of meetings set well in advance?

A: Yes. The general Community Council meetings are held the 3rd Monday of the month, from 7-9pm. The board meetings are held the 1st Monday of the month, at 7:30pm

Q: Who is on the board?

A: Kyle Britz, C. Hunter Davis, Diane Emerson, Mariela Franco, Dawn Hylton, Gavin Kovite, Camille Reeves, Nicholas Simmons, and David S. Vogel. Their 2 year  terms run through November, 2022.

Q: I have an important issue I think the Community Council should address. What should I do?

A: Use the Contact Us form on this website to send your info and contact information. If a committee has already been set up to address issues like that, your request will be sent to that committee. If not, it will be sent to the appropriate board member. If you don’t get a response in time, you can always attend a general meeting of the Community Council and raise the issue there.

Q: Where do you get your funds to operate?

A: Currently,we depend on donations from our board members and interested members of the community to cover the expenses we have. Our largest expense is hosting our website and mail servers. This has been generously donated by Ryan Maloney, founder and CEO of Atlas Networks, https://gigabit.io/
Soon we will have 501C3 status, which will make it easier to accept donations and apply for grants.

Q: How do you become a member of the Community Council?

A: If you reside, even part time, on Vashon-Maury Island, you are a defacto member. Residents 16 years and older may vote on all issues which come up at the monthly general meetings. You do not need to be on our mailing list, you do not need to register as a member. We trust you.
