Hello Councilmembers!

We’ve got our April Community Council Meeting coming up next week on Monday, April 19 at 7:00 pm. This is a meeting you all will want to be at because we’ll be VOTING on stuff!

First, we’ll have our newly appointed board members introduced, followed by a vote to confirm their appointments.

Then, we have a motion from the Active Transportation Committee, which we will vote whether or not to approve. You can find the formal motion below, in the meeting agenda. As usual, we move and second motions at one meeting, and discuss and vote on the motions at the next meeting. This gives everyone plenty of time to be sure they can vote on important issues.

Along the lines of new business, there will be a discussion about whether the Council would like to have a Traffic Safety/General Transportation committee. This would include addressing issues of public transportation, traffic safety in town, and other related concerns.

Below, you can find the link to the meeting, and the draft minutes from the March meeting are attached. As always, please review them ahead of time, as they will not be read at the meeting before they are asked to be approved. If you have changes you wish to make to them, please bring your edits/suggestions up at the appointed time.

See you all there!

Here is the wording of the motion, which was moved and seconded at the March meeting of the Community Council.

    • Part of our Active Transportation Committee’s mission is to advocate for active transportation in our community. Therefore, we would like to formally request that the county seek funding for a feasibility study that could help determine if an Active Transportation Facility (ATF) connecting the town core to the north and south end ferry terminals (similar to a Regional Trail, Heritage Trail, Sidepath, etc…) aligns with community goals and is physically and financially feasible to construct on Vashon-Maury Islands.  We believe that this request for a feasibility study is in keeping with section P-7 (p.59) of the Vashon Maury Island Subarea Plan, which states:The community desires a Regional Trail that provides commuters, students, and recreationalists with access to commercial areas, transit services, schools, and other destinations. King County should coordinate with community residents and organizations to seek funding to conduct a study to explore the feasibility of a new Regional Trail or other active transportation facilities that connects the Vashon and Maury Island communities with the north and south ferry terminals and respective ferry routes. Such a Regional Trail or other active transportation facility should achieve the following:

      a.     Connect residential, employment, and commercial centers and other important community destinations; and

      b.     Connect the north and south ferry terminals
