Frequently Asked Questions of the Vashon-Maury Island Community Council
Last update: May 1, 2022
Q: Where can I find the link to attend the general Community Council meetings?
A: If you are on the e-mail list, a link is sent to you at least once before the meeting. If you don’t see one by the date of the meeting, check your spam folder. One e-mail will go out 10 -11 days before the meeting. Another is usually sent as a reminder the day of the meeting.
The link is also published on the Next Meeting of our website. This usually goes up at least a week before the meeting
Q: What can I do if the ferry runs late?
A: You can call in to the meeting from your cell phone and participate that way. The call-in number for the meeting will be on the website Next Meeting page: vmicc.net/next-meeting/
Q: Are the dates and times of meetings set well in advance?
A: Yes. Community Council meetings are held the 3rd Monday of the month, from 7-9pm. The board meetings are held the 1st Monday of the month, at 7:30pm
Q: Who is on the board?
A: President: David Vogel
Vice-President: Diane Emerson
Secretary: Gavin Kovite
Clerk: Kyle Britz
Treasurer: Nicholas Simmons
Board Member: C. Hunter Davis
Board Member: Rachel Rome
Board Member: Michaella Olavarri
Board Member: John Affolter

Q: I have an important issue I think the Community Council should address. What should I do?
A: Use the Contact Us form on this website to send your info and contact information. If a committee has already been set up to address issues like that, your request will be sent to that committee. If not, it will be sent to the appropriate board member. If you don’t get a response in time, you can always attend a meeting of the Community Council and raise the issue there during the Open Discussion part of the agenda.
Q: Where do you get your funds to operate?
A: Currently, we depend on donations from our board members and interested members of the community to cover the expenses we have. Our largest expense is hosting our website and mail servers. This has been generously donated by Ryan Maloney, founder and CEO of Atlas Networks, https://gigabit.io/
Q: How do you become a member of the Community Council?
A: If you are 16 years old or older, and reside, even part time, on Vashon-Maury Island, you may become a member. Residents 16 years and older may vote on all issues which come up at the monthly meetings of the community council. You need to provide your Vashon-Maury Island mailing address, your e-mail address, and your name to Diane Emerson, dianeemerson@yahoo.com
